Where STEAM Comes to Life
Destination Imagination isn't about individual trophies, it's about collaboration. Each team learns how to communicate, listen to different viewpoints, resolve disagreements, and combine everyone's talents into one successful project. These are the same skills employers consistently rank among the most valuable in today's workforce.
Because teams are intentionally kept small, every member has an opportunity to contribute ideas, develop leadership skills, and make a meaningful impact.
D.I. combines STEAM education—Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics—into exciting, hands-on challenges. Teams might engineer a mechanical device, investigate scientific concepts, create artistic performances, or design technical solutions that require imagination as much as knowledge.
Instead of worksheets and lectures, students learn by doing, discovering that creativity and innovation go hand in hand with academic success.
The D.I. season typically begins in the fall (October) as teams form and start exploring their chosen challenge. Throughout the school year, students meet regularly to research, create, practice, and refine their solutions before presenting them at tournaments in the spring. For many teams, the creative journey continues through May, culminating in celebrations of innovation and teamwork.
One of the highlights for many participants is writing and performing their own original skits. Students become playwrights, actors, costume designers, prop builders, and directors, all while weaving scientific or technical concepts into entertaining performances.
Every script is created entirely by the team, giving students valuable experience in creative writing, public speaking, storytelling, and theatrical production. There are no pre-written plays or cookie-cutter solutions. Every performance is uniquely their own.

The challenges change each season, but the mission remains the same: inspire young people to imagine boldly, work together, and discover that the biggest limits are often the ones waiting to be overcome.

Teamwork That Matters
What if there were a program where students designed inventions, wrote original skits, solved real-world engineering problems, created works of art, learned teamwork, and had fun doing it?
This happens every year through Destination Imagination,(D.I.) an international creative problem-solving program that's helping students develop skills they'll use for the rest of their lives.
Unlike many activities where adults direct every step, D.I. places students in the driver's seat. Working in small teams of just two to seven students, participants brainstorm, design, build, test, revise, and present their own original solutions to open-ended challenges. The result? Students don't simply memorize information—they learn how to think creatively, collaborate effectively, and solve complex problems.

Parents often notice something unexpected after their children join Destination Imagination. Students become more confident speaking in front of groups. They grow comfortable trying new ideas—even when those ideas don't work the first time. They discover that failure isn't the end of the story; it's often the beginning of a better solution.
These lessons extend far beyond the competition floor and into classrooms, future careers, and everyday life. Destination Imagination emphasizes creative thinking, critical thinking, communication, resilience, and collaboration—skills that prepare students for an ever-changing world.

We can't do this alone. It takes a community. Many hands, make light work. We are kneed deep into: Turning the Blue Steam into a not for profit organization. We hope to provide an enrichment space to design, create and dream up crafty ideas with (un)guided sessions.
Donations received will help cover registration fee's for one destination imagination team. YES! ITS EXPENSIVE - $6,000 per team each season. The investment is priceless and worth so much more!! Blue Steam is building blocks, giant leaps to keep this free (low) fee for kids & adults.

SPOTLIGHT PROGRAMMING
Destination Imagination, inspiring our youth to think big and go for it!! Take risk, design it, just do it! Solving challenges and creating cool things in the process.
Team Tree 2 Blue put down creative roots at the Destination Imagination State Competition on Saturday, April 11, in Sun Prairie,Wisconsin, earning a second-place award and the prestigious DaVinci Award for innovation and creativity.
The judges were captivated by the team’s imaginative performance, wrote in their notes:
"Everyone has heard of Isaac Newton, but have you heard of his great great great great great great great great granddaughter Isabella Newton?
This dynamic duo brought her story to life and created an Apple Core memory for the audience.
With a tree full of hidden surprises, cleverly crafted puns, and ever changing scenery powered by creative lighting, pulley systems, balloon magic, and even flying apples, their performance kept us on our toes.
Though they may have been small in number, they were mighty in imagination, innovation and execution."
Team Tree 2 Blue is made up of team members Jenavie and Edith, two local homeschool students who founded their team last fall. This is their first year in the program; coached by team manager Rebecca Bystrom. This group has been hard at work tackling this creative challenge; their dedication paid off earlier this season when they captured first place at the Regional Competition in Hudson on February 28.
Next up, the duo will represent the state of Wisconsin at the Global Finals in Kansas City, taking place May 21–24. Congratulations to Team Tree 2 Blue on their achievement and best of luck as they take their inventive performance to the world stage!
What is the Destination Imagination Program?
This is a problem solving competition. This program is designed for preK-K12 and university students. Teams develop solutions for project based STEAM challenges and then present their solutions live at tournaments
The Unforgettable Scientific Challenge blends the curiosity of scientific research with the creative expression of performance art. Did you see that? Are you sure? Can you trust your memory, or have your eyes been deceived? Find out in this season’s Scientific challenge, when you explore the science of human memory and misdirection. Bring a memory to life with your memory depiction, complete with a special effect. How will your team be remembered?
The team had to create and present a story about how a character recalling a memory leads to a realization.
Integrate your team's research about the science of human memory into the presentation.
